Reports

Author(s): GambleAware

Publisher: GambleAware

Year Published: 2024

Date Added: November 27, 2024

Resource Type: Annual report

This report summarises information about clients of National Gambling Support Network agencies in Great Britain from April 2023 to March 2024. The information includes demographic characteristics, gambling activities, gambling history, engagement in treatment, and treatment outcomes. The data was collected through a nationally co-ordinated system called the Data Reporting Framework, which GambleAware initiated in 2015. The data presents a consistently reported summary that can be compared across years. This was the first year that data on early intervention treatment services were recorded.

Findings include:

  • A total of 10,754 clients were reported as being treated by the National Gambling Support Network providers.
  • Most gambling clients (89%) were classed as experiencing problem gambling when they started treatment.
  • Among online services, gambling on casino slots was the most common activity, followed by sporting events, and casino table games.
  • 75% of people were aged 45 years or younger, with highest number of people between 30 to 39 years old.
  • Overall, clients received a median of six treatment appointments.
  • 61% completed their scheduled treatment, among those whose treatment ended in 2023/24.
  • The rate of problem gambling fell from 87% to 10% between initial assessment and treatment completion, among people who completed treatment.
