This report presents findings related to gambling attitudes, participation, and problem gambling in Massachusetts between 2022 and 2024. Different groups of people who gambled at least monthly completed four surveys. These surveys were conducted to complement prevalence surveys, which are conducted less frequently. The goal was to track changes in behaviour over time, rather than measure prevalence in the population.
Some key findings include:
- An increase in the proportion of people who feel that the harm outweighs the benefits of gambling
- Rising rates of sports betting
- A rise in problem gambling
- A rise in family and relationship harms
Recommendations include prevention and harm reduction strategies for people who bet on sports, as well as more tools and supports for people who experience financial and family/relationship harms.
