Gambling is becoming more widespread in Italy. The goal of this study was to compare gambling motivations and emotions felt while gambling in three different subgroups. These subgroups included people who gamble on scratch cards, slot machines, and casino games. The researchers found that different types of games seem to be connected with different motivations and emotions. People who gamble on slot machines and casino games endorse more coping and social motives than people who gamble on scratch cards. People who gamble on slot machines and casino games also experience more negative emotions when gambling. Enhancement motives and positive emotions felt when gambling do not differ across the three subgroups.
