Resource Type: Research report

This infographic provides an overview of a report on gambling as a public health issue in Wales. Gambling has recently expanded in Wales with greater availability and advertising. Over half of adults in Wales take part in gambling activities.

The report takes a public health approach to gambling. It considers the impacts of gambling harm on the population rather than the individual. The report focuses on the social, health, and financial harms related to gambling. It also examines the impact of an individual's gambling on others, including partners, families, and the community. The report identifies groups who are more vulnerable to gambling harms. This includes children, military veterans, and individuals from ethnic minority groups. It also provides an overview of current evidence on the effectiveness of interventions. It concludes with policy options to support the reduction of harms from gambling.

Framing a public health approach to gambling harms in Wales: Challenges and opportunities, published by Bagor University, is a longer version of this report.
