This research examined Filipino-Canadian older adults’ gambling motives, behaviours, and help-seeking patterns. The researchers interviewed 18 older adults who gambled regularly, three social workers, and four casino workers from Manitoba, Canada. The results revealed that many older adults were exposed to gambling during their childhood. They also reported gambling because of their life experiences and related stress. When they became older, the older adults gambled to pass time and to socialize with others. The majority did not consider themselves as having problems with gambling. Only a couple of them admitted having problem gambling. The social workers, casino workers, and older adults suggested some strategies and interventions for older adults from minority cultural backgrounds.
