This report presents an overview of gambling behaviour in Great Britain during 2019, based on quarterly surveys conducted via telephone and online by Populus on behalf of the Gambling Commission. The report provides survey participant data regarding engagement in gambling activities during a four-week period, online gambling behaviour, knowledge about gambling management tools, and perceptions and attitudes in relation to gambling. The report also includes data on prevalence rates for problem, moderate-risk, and low-risk gambling. This data is taken from the NHS Digital Health Survey for England (2018), since it employed the full PGSI (Problem Gambling Severity Index) and DSM-IV screens.
The research findings indicate that overall, participation in gambling remained stable during 2019, compared to 2018. A total of 47% of respondents aged 16 years or older reported having participated in at least one form of gambling over a four-week period in 2019 (compared to 46% in 2018). The highest proportion of gambling participation was among the 45–54 age group (53%).
