This blog post by the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute in the United Kingdom lists five warning signs of gambling harm that banks can look out for and act to provide people with non-judgemental support. These are:

  1. Proportion of income or disposable income spent on gambling
  2. Number of gambling deposits or transactions
  3. Gambling across multiple operators
  4. Patterns of when someone gambles
  5. Change in how or how much is being spent on gambling

Suggested ways of providing support are:

  • Proactively offering people a suite of bank gambling support tools
  • Proactive and non-judgmental direct communication with people
  • Contacting services (e.g., gambling support services and debt advice), with the person in need of support present
