The Millennium Cohort Study follows a sample of almost 12,000 millennial youth, to chart the socio-economic and health status of those born at the start of the 21st century. This dataset from the sixth sweep of the longitudinal study includes files from the:
- Parental Interview: Comprises data from the Main Respondent, Partner Respondent and Proxy Respondent questionnaires, which covered household information; family context; education, schooling, and childcare; child and family activities; parenting activities; child's health; parent's health; employment, income and education; housing and local area; and other matters
- Household Grid: Comprises demographic data on households and additional derived variables
- Child measurement and assessment: Includes cognitive and physical measurements, a decision-making task (officially named the Cambridge Gambling task); height; weight; and waist circumference and body fat measurement
- Cohort member self-completion questionnaire: Given to all participant children and conducted on a tablet
A gambling participation question is asked on the “Age 14 Survey – Young Person Questionnaire”. It asks “Have you spent any of your own money on any of the following [forms of gambling] in the past 4 weeks? We want to know about games you played yourself.”
Data collection was completed January 2015 to April 2016 in the United Kingdom.
