The Taking Part survey collects data on aspects of leisure, culture and sport in England, as well as an in-depth range of socio-demographic information on respondents. The survey is commissioned by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in partnership with three of its non-departmental public bodies (Sport England, Arts Council England and English Heritage). The survey was first commissioned in 2005 as a face-to-face household survey of adults (16+) in England. Since then, it has run annually and has been developed to include further elements, including a child element and a longitudinal element.
This survey collected information about individuals’ engagement in leisure, cultural, and sport activities and development of digital skills during the COVID-19 pandemic in England. The data was collected in three waves during May, June, and July 2020. All three waves used the same sampling methods.
Survey topics include:
- Measuring wellbeing
- New skills learned during the pandemic
- Participation in specific activities
Gambling data is available in the Taking Part Web Panel - COVID-19 Questionnaire, 2020. To gain access to the data, you must apply and receive approval from the UK Data Service. No financial costs are required to access these files.
