We have been collecting questions about the Gambling-Related Suicide Research Programme funding calls submitted to grs-funding@greo.ca. In the interest of fairness to all potential applicants these questions and answers are provided below:
Q: Is it possible to defer the 1 July start date?
A: The 1 July start date is a suggestion however applicants can request an alternate timeline in their proposals.
Q: Can applicants submit a grant application to conduct a small project (e.g.,a small secondary data analysis)?
A: Yes. Applicants are invited to submit projects of varying scope and budget.
Q: Are all application teams required to be interdisciplinary - even those of limited scope and budget?
A: Yes. All application teams are required to be interdisciplinary. However, if your application is for a project that is small in scope and budget, it is reasonable to request that this eligibility criterion be relaxed. Specifically, for projects £25,000 or less, teams that are not interdisciplinary will be considered eligible. We ask that you note this in your expression of interest and your application.
Q: Will the Gambling-Related Suicide Research Programme fund one large project or several smaller projects?
A: The number of grants awarded will depend on the quality of the applications received, the requested budgets, and decisions of the peer review committee.Note that research teams proposing projects with larger budgets should consider creating a consortium comprised of multiple institutions/entities.
Q: Are salaries an allowable cost for this programme?
A: Salaries can be an allowable expense. For example, salary replacement costs are permitted as are course buy-outs for teaching faculty at academic institutions. However, it is not permitted to use grant funds to “top up” investigators salaries. Please review Greo’s Eligible Expense Guidelines.
Q: Has there been any involvement of the gambling industry in development of this funding call or this research programme?
A: There has been no involvement of the gambling industry in development of this funding call or this research programme
Q: Will the review panel and anyone involved in funding decisions exclude everyone with any conflicts of interest with the gambling industry?
A: Yes, the application guidelines include strict conflicts of interest requirements. Please see Section 6, paragraph 3 of the call.
