Greo maintains a data repository of research-grade gambling datasets that are available for research purposes. It uses the open-source Dataverse software, and is part of Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository. Dataverse conforms to industry best practices and maintains data integrity and security. Dataverse is OAI-PMH compatible, meaning datasets are indexed by Google and other search engines.
Datasets in the Greo repository are put through a rigorous quality assurance process. Our team ensures the data are clean and consistent, and we create a "codebook" that describes the data collected and what the variables mean. This snapshot of our archival process shows you the method we follow to preserve a dataset.
Greo's Evidence Centre library indexes all datasets housed by Greo, as well as links to gambling datasets held by other national and international data archives, such as Statistics Canada. This infographic shows the process to access any of the datasets listed in the Evidence Centre.

Accessing Datasets |
The general process to access datasets is summarized in this infographic. Permission is required to access most datasets housed in Greo's data repository. Open access datasets may be downloaded directly from the repository. To access other Greo-housed datasets, please submit a Request to Access Data Form, or email dataset@greo.ca. Note that you must agree to Greo's Terms of Use to be granted access to the dataset. For all other datasets, you will be redirected to the hosting archive where you will be required to follow their policies. |
Submitting a Dataset |
There are many benefits to sharing research data, and Greo can provide additional services to help with the process. If you have gambling related data that you would like to share with others, please see our page on submitting a dataset, or contact us at dataset@greo.ca. |
Research Data Management Resources |
Research data management encompasses the processes applied through the lifecycle of a research project. This can include the collection, documentation, storage, sharing, and preservation of research data. It is essential in allowing research to find and access data.
