This report provides information about gambling behaviour in Great Britain using data from "Gambling in England and Scotland, 2016: Combined data from the Health Survey for England and the Scottish Health Survey" and the 2016 Wales Omnibus survey. This data is collected to help provide the latest estimates for the National Responsible Gambling Strategy, an initiative that aims to minimize gambling-related harm in Great Britain.
The Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI) and Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV (DSM-IV) were used to develop gambling-related questions in the surveys. The report breaks down past year and frequency of gambling participation in Great Britain by gambling types and various socio-demographic characteristics, including:
- age;
- sex;
- ethnicity;
- region;
- weekly alcohol consumption;
- mental health (12-item General Health Questionnaire); and
- well-being (The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being scale).
Two separate sections in the report are dedicated to outlining the prevalence and profile of individuals who met at-risk and problem gambling criteria in the survey. The report ends with a brief examination of key themes and trends in gambling behaviour that were observed from the surveys.
