Journal: Australasian Psychiatry

Year Published: 2020

Date Added: August 24, 2020

In this article, the researchers describe a six-step intervention that they created and tested. The aim of the intervention is to reduce gamblers’ distress and empower them to get help for their gambling problems. The researchers did a literature review. They also interviewed 19 key informants including gambling counsellors, specialists, gamblers, and significant others. The researchers created a six-step intervention using their findings from the literature review and the interviews. They tested their intervention at a National Gambling Helpline in Australia. The researchers reported positive feedback from the helpline clinicians. The researchers suggested that the intervention could also be applied by clinicians working across telephone, online, and face-to-face services.
