This article summarized important issues and concepts related to the Pathways Model. The Pathways Model suggests that there are three distinct pathways to developing problem gambling. The authors critically examined evidence that supports the Pathways Model as well as evidence that suggests the Pathways Model can be improved. The authors suggested several areas for future research. For instance, more longitudinal research is needed to better understand how people may transition between pathways over time, as well the trajectories of co-occurring psychological disorders.
