This article is a review of systems and tools that offer ‘hard’ restrictions on access to cash or money for gambling. The author aimed to determine attitudes and preferences for these systems and tools, and evidence of their effectiveness. The author identified nine studies. Three studies focused on money management systems (e.g., ban on credit card use for gambling). Three studies focused on removal of ATMs from gambling venues. The studies were generally of low quality. There were few evaluation studies, and most studies relied on self-reported data. Overall, there was strong support from people who gambled for these hard systems and tools.
