Resource Type: Policy document

This charter is a voluntary, best-practice framework for the use of artificial intelligence for gambling in Malta, which exists alongside European Union and national laws. The charter emphasizes risk-based management, transparency, fairness, sustainability, data protection, human oversight, and continuous improvement.

Examples of core principles of the charter include:

  • Stronger safeguards are required for systems that impact people who gamble and compliance.
  • People need to be informed when they are interacting with artificial intelligence, including AI generated or manipulated content.
  • Documentation, disclosure, and explainability of AI use must be clearly demonstrated.
  • Use of AI must not result in discrimination or bias.
