This report summarizes GambleAware's experience in directing funding to research and evaluation of gambling harm in Great Britain. The focus is on the meaningful involvement of people with lived experience of gambling harm in research and evaluation. 'Power sharing' in research grantmaking includes the involvement of people with lived experience in scoping priorities, cochairing panels, codesign of research questions and evaluation indicators, coauthors of briefs and evaluation frameworks, etc. Aspects of collaboration with people with lived experience, and directing funding to research and evaluation that are addressed include:
- Safeguarding and ethical considerations
- Identifying prospective partners
- Research methods and community consortia approaches
- Quality assurance of output and peer review process
- Dissemination of findings
