Casino staff can help detect and intervene when patrons show signs of problem gambling. The researchers interviewed 49 casino staff in Macao about their understanding of responsible gambling, signs used to detect problem gambling, and intervention or barriers that prevent them from intervening. Most participants had a general understanding of responsible gambling, although some held misunderstandings. Participants were able to identify many signs of problem gambling. However, they had taken action to intervene only when a patron asked for help. Four barriers that prevented them from intervening were identified.
