Journal: Current Addiction Reports

Year Published: 2025

Date Added: September 02, 2025

This review aims to provide a thorough examination of the risk associated with various forms of gambling. The researchers seek to understand whether there is consensus among researchers regarding the categorization of various forms of gambling into hard and soft forms. Casino games and electronic gaming machines are consistently classified as hard forms of gambling with high risk, while lotteries and number games are considered soft forms with minimal risk potential. Poker and online gambling are also considered to be high-risk forms of gambling. The classification of sports betting, scratch cards, and bingo is inconsistent across studies.
