Author(s): Pickering, Dylan ; Blaszczynski, Alex

Journal: International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction

Year Published: 2021

Date Added: April 12, 2021

This research explores what causes people to either re-enroll in a self-exclusion program or start gambling again. The researchers recruited 85 adults who participated in a self-exclusion program in the past. At the time of the study, participants were either self-excluding because they re-enrolled in the program or they were not self-excluding because they did not re-enroll. Participants completed an online survey. Participants thought it was easy to re-enroll or withdraw from the self-exclusion program. But many felt unsupported during the last six weeks of the self-exclusion program. Gambling operators can use this research to give people the support and information they need to confidently decide whether to re-enroll in a self-exclusion program.
