The researchers investigated the relationship between suicidality and problem gambling (PG) among people living in the community in England. They also explored whether having other mental disorders and addictions affects this relationship. The researchers analyzed data from the 2007 Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey (APMS). They found a higher risk of suicidality among people with PG in the general public in England. The risk of suicidality remained higher among people with PG even after taking into account depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addictions, and other factors. Policy makers can use this research to develop a gambling prevention strategy for England. This research also shows a need to screen for suicidality among people with PG.
