Pathological gambling is a form of behavioural addiction. There is an increasing risk of pathological gambling in countries where gambling is becoming more widespread. This is the case in the Republic of Kazakhstan where automated gambling machines, Internet gambling, betting offices and gambling operations are now widely available. Identifying gambling behaviours and how they may be related to pathological gambling risk is important in creating effective prevention and treatment programs. This study assessed gamblers visiting betting offices in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Betting offices are locations where bets are made for sporting events.
