Author(s): Hunter, Lauren ; O'Young Vlies, Maia ; Okonkwo, Steven

Publisher: GambleAware

Year Published: 2025

Date Added: January 17, 2026

Resource Type: Research report

This report presents an overview of research mainly published by GambleAware on gambling-related harms among children and young people in Great Britain. Topics include: experiences of gambling and gambling-related harms; marketing and advertising; inequalities in the distribution of harm; barriers to accessing support and principles for effective intervention; and priorities for future research and interventions.

Recommendations include:

  • Policies that prioritize prevention, restrict marketing and influencer content, and develop alongside the digital environment.
  • Early support and online education that is easily accessible and reflects young people's realities.
  • Regulation be developed to address the blurring of gaming and gambling.
  • Parents and others be supported to have conversations with children and young people about gambling and harm.
