This report by the UK government outlines areas of gambling regulation to be updated. The report follows a call for evidence that the government held to modernize legislation in the 2005 Gambling Act. Areas of focus in the report are:
- online protections
- advertising, sponsorship, and branding
- the powers and resources of the Gambling Commission
- dispute resolution and customer redress
- children and young adults
- land-based gambling
Major changes to regulation include affordability checks at moderate and high spending levels, stake limits of between £2 and £15 per spin on online slot games, and a a statutory levy paid by operators to fund research, education and treatment of gambling harms (see page 12 for a table summary of key proposals and next steps).
