This research report by the Gambling Commission (the gambling regulator in Great Britain) presents findings from 25 in-depth follow-up interviews with people who participated in the Gambling Survey for Great Britain in 2023. The purpose was to gain a deeper understanding of adverse consequences from gambling (e.g., pathways, external factors, interactions with life experiences, preventative measures and practices).

- Gambling consequences arise from a range of external factors (e.g., individual, social and political, gambling industry related)
- First experiences with gambling are often positive
- Interactions between adverse consequences and external factors are complex and interrelate in many ways
Recommendations include interventions that are targeted or flexible to support those experiencing varying types of harm, and tools such as deposit limits that are backed-up by elements that help people to trust operators in the use of these tools.
