This report presents statistics from the second Gambling Survey for Great Britain. The survey was conducted by the National Centre for Social Research, in collaboration with the University of Glasgow, and was commissioned by the Gambling Commission (the gambling regulator in Great Britain). The aim was to better understand gambling participation, motivations for gambling, and the consequences of gambling. In total, 19,714 adults completed the survey between January 2024 and January 2025.
Key findings include:
- 48% of adults (aged 18 and over) participated in gambling in the past four weeks (28% if people who only participated in lottery are excluded).
- 8.8% of people had a Problem Gambling Severity Index score of 1 to 2; 3.1% had a score of 3 to 7; and 2.7% had a score of 8 or more.
- The most severe consequence from gambling was breakdown of relationship(s) (1.6%), among people who had gambled in the last 12 months.
- Of adults who had gambled in the past 12 months, 3.4% had sought support because of their gambling.
