People with mental health problems often face stigmatization from the public. Addictive disorders are particularly stigmatized. The aim of this study was to examine stigmatization of gambling disorder and how it might compare to stigmatization of alcohol use disorder, internet use disorder, and mild depressive symptoms (as a control condition). Participants were randomly assigned to one of four vignettes describing a person with a male or female first name. The results show that stigmatization was higher for both gambling disorder and alcohol use disorder. Internet use disorder was also stigmatized when compared to the control condition. Overall level of stigmatization did not differ significantly between gambling disorder and alcohol use disorder. But the two conditions differed on certain aspects of stigmatization. Stigmatization was higher when a male first name was used, regardless of condition.
