This report outlines the findings from testing screening tools that are considered alternatives to the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI). The purpose was to understand how the other screening tools compare to the PGSI and how they might affect the proportion of people in Britain experiencing different degrees of gambling harm. A total of 4,456 people completed one of the alternative screening tools at random, two to three weeks after completing the annual GambleAware Treatment and Support Survey 2023. The report outlines findings for each of the seven alternative screening tools tested. Overall, it was concluded that using a different screening tool will result in a change in the composition of harm represented in any group. Changing to a different screening tool may have implications for research, and access to treatment and support if people are reclassified into new categories of harm.
