This study looked at the connection between problem gambling behaviours and betting on micro events in sports. Placing this type of bet is strongly linked to problem gambling behaviours such as making impulsive bets and placing a larger number of bets than other gamblers. Gamblers completed a survey on their demographics and gambling behaviours, and researchers looked for patterns that connected those behaviours to microbetting. They found that microbetting is far more popular among people with gambling problems than people with few or no gambling problems. The researchers believe that microbetting should be banned because it is most appealing to people with problem gambling issues and may cause those people more harm.
