This report outlines the results of the Gambling Commission’s annual research that explores gambling behaviours among young people in Great Britain. A survey was conducted in schools, with a sample of 3,453 students 11 to 17 years old. Students responded to questions about where they gamble and with whom, perceptions of gambling, and awareness of gambling advertising. The survey used the problem gambling screen Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th Edition - Multiple Response Juvenile (DSM-IV-MR-J) to classify young people who gambled as at risk or experiencing problem gambling. Key findings include:26% of young people had spent their own money on gambling in the previous twelve months.The most common types of gambling activity that young people spent their own money on were arcade gaming machines and placing a bet/playing cards for money with friends or family.19% of young people had spent their own money on regulated forms of gambling and 14% on unregulated forms of gambling. 0.7% of young people were classified as experiencing problem gambling and 1.5% as being at risk.28% of young people had seen their family members gamble.
