Author(s): National Council on Problem Gambling (U.S.)

Year Published: 2025

Date Added: July 30, 2025

Resource Type: Summary report

This summary document presents the key findings of the third National Survey on Gambling Attitudes and Gambling Experiences (NGAGE 3.0) conducted early in 2024. The survey was commissioned by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) in the United States, and conducted by Ipsos, a market research and public opinion polling company. The survey was designed to assess gambling behaviour and attitudes before and after the legalization of sports betting in many U.S. states. The survey was also designed to identfy changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic as opposed to longer term trends. The survey was not designed to formally assess the prevalence of gambling participation or problem gambling. The results from two previous surveys were published in 2018 and 2021.

Findings from the 2024 survey include:

  • 71% reported gambling on at least one activity (compared to 71% in 2018 and 73% in 2021).
  • 23% of people reported engaging in sports betting (compared to 20% in 2018 and 26% in 2021).
  • 8% of adults reported experiencing at least one sign of potential problem gambling "many times" (compared to 7% in 2018 and 11% in 2021)
  • A comprehensive system of care is needed.
  • Education is needed about how gambling actually works and how to reduce one's risk, especially for people at high-risk.
