The Greo Data Repository houses research-grade datasets on gambling and related harms. It was established as part of Greo's mandate to translate and exchange cutting-edge knowledge in the field of gambling research to support evidence informed decision-making about gambling and potential harms from gambling.
The Data Repository is part of the Scholars Portal Dataverse network. The Scholars Portal Dataverse is a publicly accessible Canadian data repository provided by Scholars Portal. It is hosted on Canadian Servers at the University of Toronto Libraries and uses the Dataverse platform. Dataverse is an open-source tool developed by the Institute for Quantitative Social Sciences (IQSS) at Harvard University. The platform allows researchers to publish, describe, preserve, and share their research data for discovery and reuse by others. Features of the platform include a user interface for submitting, maintaining, and downloading research materials; search and browse functionality; a metadata schema; usage statistics; time-stamped submissions; and persistent identifiers for each dataset.
The Greo Data Repository service operates according to a set of policies, which are available on our website. This consists of the Scholars Portal Dataverse Terms of Use, the Greo Terms of Use and accompanying Terms of Use Agreement, and the Depositor Agreement. The Depositor Agreement includes the Submission, Withdrawal, and Preservation policies
Research datasets in the field of gambling and gambling-related problems may be submitted for inclusion in the Data Repository. Depositing datasets in the Data Repository is a facilitated process. Actual upload of datasets to the Data Repository will be performed by Greo staff. Staff will work with the Depositor to ensure that:
See the Depositor Agreement including Schedule B: Submission Policy, Schedule C: Withdrawal Policy, and Schedule D: Preservation Policy for more information.
The Data Repository is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, excluding planned maintenance periods. Users can search, discover, and download datasets from the Data Repository. Each dataset has a persistent identifier (handle) allowing it to be cited by data users. Access restrictions may apply to datasets. Please refer to the Terms of Use information of a dataset for specific access information.
See the Terms of Use Agreement for more details related to the use of datasets in the Data Repository.
The Data Repository will provide long-term access to datasets. All datasets are housed in a secure environment that conforms to industry best practices and maintains data integrity and longevity. Regular backup of the datasets is performed by Scholars Portal. See Schedule D: Preservation Policy of the Depositor Agreement for more information.
User support is provided by our staff. Core hours of support are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern Time. Any problems or queries should be emailed to dataset@greo.ca.
