The framework consists of eight interrelated factors, separated into two topical sets: Gambling Specific Factors and General Factors. These represent major themes in gambling studies and groupings of factors that are relevant across all other framework factors.
Gambling Specific Factors:
- Gambling Environment (i.e., the economic and political environment) can impact the nature and frequency of gambling activity, and the degree of gambling-related harm that results.
- Gambling Exposure is a prerequisite for harmful gambling since no gambling would occur without the opportunity to do so.
- Gambling Types refers to various forms of gambling, which may have different potential to cause harm.
- Gambling Resources refer to resources available to the individual that can prevent or reduce harm.
